Kathmandu, July 19 : The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been chosen for the Swiss Tourism Award-2023.     

The Award would be given in a ceremony to be held in Lugano City of Switzerland from November 3 to 5 later this year. The Award is given to honour excellence in different segments of tourism industry.     

A committee comprising scientists working in the tourism sector selected the KMC for the Award, shared Spokesperson at the KMC, Nabin Manandhar.     

A letter sent by the Award ceremony organizer to KMC Mayor Balendra Shah reads, "We would like to invite you to attend this programme that introduces dimensional aspect of this region to the public and promotes specialty of the tourism destinations."     

The letter further mentioned that the cultural, religious, archeological and historical heritages, tangible and intangible heritages and lively urban atmosphere of Kathmandu would entice visitors.     

The Award is being distributed for 15 years. Any local level could apply for it. A selected number of applicants would be nominated for the Award.     

The main objective of the Award is to promote cultural and natural heritages as tourism destinations and to make tourism services standards competitive.     

Furthermore, the Award aims to increase the prospects of tourism development, and communicate and market the tourism destinations among the prospective tourists. The Award ceremony would also promote the destinations of the awarded places in the international market including Switzerland and Italy. (RSS)
