Kathmandu, Aug 20: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati today said the government would move ahead by amending the Tourism Act as the amendment was imperative for the development of the tourism sector.     

Speaking at the concluding training session for the first class of tourist police constables and junior police officers, the minister said, "The Act that was made a long time ago cannot resolve problems surrounding the tourism sector. The Ministry is at work to amend the Act."     

He also praised the role of tourist police in publicising the country's tourism to the international market despite limited resources while directing them to continue their duty with high integrity, heart, words and deeds.     

Similarly, Additional Inspector General of Police Tek Prasad Rai urged the trainee police personnel to maximally utilise their skills and experiences received from the training session in their work.     

According to available data, there are a total of 239 tourist police in the country. A total of 30 tourist police attended the training. (RSS)
