Jhapa, Oct 7: Nepali Congress (NC) general-secretary Biswo Prakash Sharma asserted that the existing legal provisions of waiving jail sentence to the court-convicted persons on the backing of power was wrong.
In his address to the district convention of NC Jhapa this afternoon, he said public discontent was growing with the rise in the trends of providing waiver by misusing the state power in a democratic country having rule of law.
"It is always wrong for the leaders to straightly use the President (Head of the State) to grant amnesty", he said, calling for the legal provision of taking consent of the victim family even if waiver was granted.
Lauding the coalition government for opening the corruption related files, Sharma said he has adopted the policy of supporting and protesting the government on the basis of its performance.
He also urged the government to bring the School Education Bill with amendment to the parliament fully adhering to the agreement signed with the Nepal Teachers Federation.
The general secretary claimed that the country saw peace when the NC was in government leadership. (RSS)
