Kathmandu, Oct. 28: President of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Gopal Krishna Ghimire has mentioned that he had no intention for the court's contempt.

Furnishing a written response in a petition filed against him on contempt of court, Ghimire said that the contempt of court by him could not be even imaged adding that the NBA President was always in the forefront to safeguard the independent judiciary and uplift the public trust to the court.

In his written response, Ghimire has mentioned that his purpose was that the decision of the Judicial Council should not undermine the spirit and sense of the Constitution and uphold the principle of judicial accountability.

Earlier on October 17, issuing a show cause notice, the Supreme Court (SC) Justices Kumar Regmi and Dr Kumar Chudal had sought a written response from Ghimire in the petition lodged against him on a charge of contempt of court.

The SC had handed down the order directing Ghimire to appear himself at the court or send the written response through his representative as per the law within a week after receiving the notice.

In his response, Ghimire has said that the NBA has stood firm as a defender of the judiciary, stating that the Bar and Bench are the two wheels of a chariot.

Likewise, Ghimire has stated that the appointment of justices should be fair, impartial and transparent which helps uplift the public trust towards the court. (RSS)
