Khotang, Dec 7: The Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality is hosting the First National Bamboo Conference-2081 being held in Diktel Bazaar from February 27 to March 1.
Mayor Teerthraj Bhattarai said that 15 bamboo artisans have been selected to make bamboo chairs to exhibit at the conference and give gifts to high-ranking people.
The First National Bamboo Conference-2081 is being held with the main slogan of 'Where there is bamboo, there is life, where there is life, there is bamboo', to protect, manage, sustainably use bamboo and develop entrepreneurship. It will also help protect the environment, increase local employment and prosper the national economy, said Municipal Deputy Mayor Bishan Rai.
Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the largest local level of the district (with fifteen wards), has been promoting various types of household materials made from bamboo. It has introduced policies and programs to promote various types of household goods made from bamboo, which is increasing the number of the industries producing bamboo items.
Mayor Bhattarai and his deputy Rai have also used locally produced bamboo furniture in their offices after removing the imported furniture used by the previous leadership.
An organising committee has been formed under the coordination of former Minister of Forest and Environment, Ganesh Sah, to hold the first National Bamboo Conference at Diktel Bazaar. (RSS)
