Damak / The Bhutanese refugees staged demonstration before the office of United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) at Damak, Jhapa on Tuesday demanding repatriation.
The refugees wishing to return to their home country took out rally and chanted slogans before reaching to UNHCR section office for submission of a memorandum.
Bhutanese refugees have been languishing in camps of Jhapa and Morang for the past three decades.
They have sought support from the UN body to facilitate their repatriation with assurance for obtaining property ownership.
The rally taken out under the aegis of National Reconciliation Committee Bhutan had submitted a five-point memorandum to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres through UNHCR Damak Office Chief Khalid Fansa, shared Committee chair Krishna Bir Tamang.
In a memorandum, the refugees noted their social, economic and familial structures have been broken for living outside the country for almost three decades.
Tamang further said they submitted the memorandum to draw attention of the United Nations to ensure their right to graceful repatriation in line with the Article 13 (2) of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
As many as 7,000 Bhutanese refugees are languishing at Pathari and Beldangi camps. ---
