Itahari (RSS): The chairperson of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality of the state-1 Ngim Dorji Sherpa has died at his home in Lukla of Solukhumbu district. Sherpa breathed his last at 8:30 in the morning, informed Tashi Lhamu Sherpa, the vice chairperson of the rural municipality. Sherpa, 39, is survived by his three sons.
Sherpa was suffering from abdominal cancer for last 11 months. He was first admitted at HAMS Hospital of Dhunbarai, Kathmandu. He was later hospitalized at Medanta Hospital od Indian national capital New Delhi for chemotherapy. State-1 government has assisted half million rupees for his treatment, informed Hikmat Karki, the Internal Affairs and Law Minister and the spokesperson of the state-1 government.
According to Lakshman Adhikarti, the ward number 5 chair of the rural municipality, said his last rites would be performed after finalizing traditional Buddhist rituals.
Three day official mourning at the local government
The official meeting of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality has decided to observe three-day-long mourning for the tragic demise of the rural municipality chair. The morning meeting chaired by vice chairperson of the rural municipality has decided to this effect.
The 5-ward rural municipality is Nepal's top natural resources royalty earner at the local level of Nepal. In the last fiscal year, it earned Rs. 115 million from the utilization of mountains, rivers, forests and mines of the rural municipality. Home to the Mount Everest and UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site of Sagarmatha National Park, this rural municipality is the most visited local local level of the state-1.
Fourth local government head to pass away
Sherap is the fourth head of local government to die in the state-1. Before his death today, Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Tara Subba , Chairperson of Makalu Rural Municipality Khadga Bahadur Katwal and Chairperson of Falgunanda Rural Municipality Amar Bahadur Nembang have died before.
Subba died on 17 July 2018 and Katwal and Nembang passed away on 14 January 2018 and 9 February 2019 respectively. However, the newly elected chairs from by-elections of 2019 have replaced these vacant positions.
